CICC
China International Capital Corporation Limited
A financial institution providing investment banking, securities and asset management services.
Background
China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) was founded in 1995 as China’s first Sino-foreign joint venture investment bank. Its business covers investment banking, securities and asset management, among other areas. It has been listed successively on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and has subsidiaries in Hong Kong, New York, London, Singapore and elsewhere.
Beginning in October 2010, CICC held a series of receptions in New York, Beijing and Shanghai to celebrate its 15th anniversary, followed by a reception in Hong Kong on November 24, with further events planned in London and Singapore; this series of events was interpreted as a move by CICC to further pursue internationalisation. According to reports, two Chief Executives, Tung Chee-hwa and Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, both attended the Hong Kong reception, while Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong, central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan and China Investment Corporation chairman Lou Jiwei attended the Beijing reception. In October 2010, GLP, the logistics arm of GIC, went public; this was the first time CICC played a leading role in the IPO of an overseas company, and it was regarded as a breakthrough for CICC in international projects.
According to a November 2023 report by Caixin, a CICC research report showed that the places where urban investment bond yields are high are precisely the regions where risks relating to guaranteed delivery of housing and risks at local city commercial banks are concentrated. On October 19, 2024, CICC chief economist Peng Wensheng attended the third 2024 session of the China Economic Quarterly Observation roundtable held in Shanghai, where he and other guests discussed third-quarter economic data and the package of incremental policies recently introduced.
According to Caixin, in January 2025 top decision-makers required that the local responsibility of Shenzhen, the city where Vanke is headquartered, be firmly enforced. The Shenzhen government hired CICC as financial adviser, which organised a team to station at Vanke, conduct due diligence on Vanke’s assets and liabilities, and draft a plan for Vanke’s next financial arrangements.
